PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve drive feeling and road environment by reducing exhaust gas and noise from a power generating engine, when a road on which a car is traveling is jammed. SOLUTION: This car is equipped with a drive motor 2, a battery 1, power generator 6, a power generating engine 7, a residual capacity detecting means 8, a generation control means 10 for controlling the operation and stop of the power generating engine 7 and the power generator 6, the generation control means 10 is provided with an engine start and stop control means 14A for stopping the generating engine 7, a traffic congestion judging means 13 for judging whether the road is congested is provided based on the output of a vehicular speed detection means 4A, and the operation of the power generating engine 7 is stopped or restricted by the engine start stop control means 14A, after the road has been judged as being congested by the congestion judging means 13. |
