[Also in Division G1] In a method of mounting a vehicle wheel 30 on the spindle 50 of testing, e.g. wheel balancing, apparatus the wheel is joined to a mounting plate 10 by plugs 40, the assembly being then mounted on to the spindle. The mounting plate 10 which comprises sets of holes to mount wheels of different sizes is mounted on the vertical shaft of an auxiliary stand 20, Fig. 2 (not shown), and the wheel 30 laid thereupon and joined thereto by a set of plugs 40 each of which comprises a conical countersunk portion 43 which engages the mounting holes 34 of the wheel. A rubber O-ring 45 mounted in a groove in the shank 42 of each plug 40 frictionally engages an appropriate hole in the mounting plate 10. When mounted on the balancing apparatus the assembly abuts a collar 52 on the spindle 50, the wheel being then secured by a backing plate 53 which is urged against the heads of the plugs 40 by a nut 57 screwed on to the end of the spindle. |
