A plastic rotor blade for helicopters has necessarily near the leading edge and parallel to it a balance weight, usually made of a cord of lead. To reduce the backscatter of this metal which helps to spot helicopters in the IFF (identification friend or foe) mode on the radar screen, it is suggested to subdivide this cord in many short segments. Their surface should not be left smooth and they should be wrapped in high-frequency absorbing material. ADVANTAGE - This reduces or nullifies the effect as a passive linear antenna backscatterer.
