ADAPTER SLEEVE FOR PORTABLE HARD DRIVE

A sleeve (500) for holding a hard disk drive (502) in portable removable engagement with a PC or laptop computer includes a base (524) and a cover (512) attachable to the base (524) by means of threaded fasteners (542). The base (524) includes plural holder arms (534), and when the cover (512) is removed from the base (524) and the hard disk drive (502) advanced into the base (524), the holder arms (534) move outwardly as the hard drive (502) rides the arms (534). When the hard disk drive (502) clears the arms (534), the arms (534), which are biased to a hold configuration, move back inwardly to hold the hard disk drive (502) in the base (524), with the cover (512) then attached to the base (524). The edge (518) of the cover (512) cooperates with the base (524) to hold the holder arms (534) in the hold configuration and thereby securely hold the hard disk drive (502) in the sleeve.
