Manufacturing a shrink cap (10') involves: (a) cutting a short section (27) from a longer length of shrink wrap tubing (26); (b) closing one open end (17) of the tube (27) and welding to form a seam with a rigid edge (16) in a symmetrical plane of the tube section; and (c) deforming the edge (16) so that the tip (18) and corners lie off the symmetrical plane. A shrink cap is also claimed for protecting an electrical component, especially a temperature dependent switch. Also claimed is a process for protecting an electrical component, in which a shrink cap (10') is manufactured, the open end (15) is slipped over the component leaving the electrical connections extending outside and the cap is then shrunk onto the component using hot air. An electrical component, especially a temperature dependent switch with the shrunk-on cap, is further claimed. |
