Method for preserving somatostatin (I) by applying, and binding, a (I)-containing sample of body fluid to a carrier, preferably flat. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) method for quantifying (I) by (a) preserving the sample as above; (b) releasing (I) from the bound sample; (c) contacting (I) with at least one specific detection reagent and (d) measuring some value that is correlated with the amount of (I) present; and (2) test system for determining (I) in an isolated sample that comprises a carrier, preferably flat, for preserving and binding (I) from a body fluid sample; elution fluid for recovery of (I) from the carrier and at least one specific (I)-detection reagent.
