PURPOSE: To manufacture a separator having excellent characteristics at low cost by conducting a graft process of a portion of basic fiber prepared as raw material, and by forming a nonwoven separator by using the processed fiber and either unprocessed fiber or the other processed fiber. CONSTITUTION: Two or more kinds of basic fibers are caused to undergo a grafting process only one time, and then a plurality of aggregates fabricated from one or more kinds of fibers are caused to undergo different grafting processes respectively. Therefore, any combination of grafting processed fibers or grafting unprocessed fibers is allowed to form a nonwoven separator. That is, an alkaline battery separator includes a matrix of polyamide fiber or polyolefin fiber, and this matrix comprises at least one kind of graft-processed fiber aggregate and unprocessed fiber aggregate. Accordingly, polypropylene fiber which is sensitive to irradiation and which has good mechanical durability can be included in a state of being mixed with the graft-processed fiber to facilitate washing and drying after processing. |
