<p>1292043 Dynamo-electric machine brushgear JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 6 Jan 1970 [13 Jan 1969] 1880/69 Heading H2A In a dynamo-electric machine, e.g. alternator which includes a frame 11 supporting two bearings 12, 13 rotatably journalling a shaft 14 carrying a rotor assembly 15, one end of the shaft extends beyond one bearing 13 and carries a slip ring unit 18 engaged by brushes 29 of a brush assembly carried by the frame, the shaft end having a generally cylindrical axial bore engaged by a slip ring unit spigot 19 to retain the unit on the shaft, the spigot being so shaped, e.g. of cruciform section, that between itself and the bore there is defined at least one passage through which extends at least one lead, not shown, from the unit. Beyond the bearing 13, the leads pass to the shift extension through passages 23, and a spring clip not shown aids the spigot/bore interference fit in retaining the unit in position. The unit, of the end face type, comprises a conductive disc 21 and an annulus 22, set in a moulded body.
