The self-releasing heel hold for a ski binding can be selectively applied. A swivel section (6) with a down holder (7) can be switched on to the heel area of the ski boot through a toggle lever system which is subject to the regulatable tension of a spring element (9). A release element is fitted which in the event of an overload on the heel hold pushes the lever beyond the dead centre along an inclined plane (17). The release element is used to disconnect the heel hold with the aid of the spring element (15) which is formed as a leaf spring.
