PURPOSE:To enable sudden stop of an image bearing body in case of an accident as well as to prevent potential rise on reoperation, by stopping the image bearing body in response to detection of an accident, and starting destaticization or uniform charging means on restarting operation. CONSTITUTION:When abnormality is detected in an imaging stage, photosensitive drum 1 is rapidly stopped by reversing a drive motor or direct current braking. After taking measures against the abnormality, during the time length that drum 1 is rotated to the initial position, discharger 3 is actuated, simultaneously drum 1 is exposed to a light of intensity similar to that of the light area of the image, and further uniformly exposed to light from lamp 4. The surface potential of drum 1 is made uniform at zero potential corresponding to the potential of the light area, thus permitting rise of the surface potential of drum 1 at restart, trouble in developing, wasting of toner etc. to be prevented. |
