1) Process to prepare an alkyl and arylalkyl, both acyclic and cyclic, dithiocarbonate of formula (I) <CHEM> starting from the corresponding trithiocarboate, which comprises the following steps: a) The corresponding trithiocarbonate of formula (II) <CHEM> is treated with a compound of formula R''-X, at a temperature between 40 DEG C and 110 DEG C, and b) The reaction mixture obtained from step a) is put under nitrogen and left to react at a temperature between 40 DEG C and 90 DEG C, after addition of an amount varying between 2.5. and 20 parts in volume per part in weight of trithiocarbonate (II), of a mixture of water with a mineral acid, or of an aqueous alcohol having 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
