PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive electrodeless discharge lamp device of a simple structure, in which startability in the dark is excellent. SOLUTION: A starting auxiliary light source unit comprises a starting auxiliary light source 35 disposed in the vicinity of a light emitting tube 30, and a power source circuit 33 including a coupling element electromagnetically coupled with a coil 34 for lighting the light emitting tube and a power source circuit portion for lighting the starting auxiliary light source 35 by the use of high frequency electric power induced to the coupling element as a power source. At this time, the starting auxiliary light source unit is arranged such that the coupling degree between the coupling element inside the power source circuit 33 and the coil 34 for lighting the light emitting tube becomes smaller than that between the coil 34 for lighting the light emitting tube and a high frequency plasma ring 32 generated inside the light emitting tube 30. Consequently, the starting auxiliary light source 35 is lighted at the time of starting; in the meantime, the starting auxiliary light source 35 can be automatically extinguished during the lighting of the light emitting tube 30. |
