1,155,134. Tubular heat exchange elements. COMMISSARIATE A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 27 Oct., 1966 [10 Nov., 1965], No. 48270/66. Heading F4S. [Also in Division G6] A heat exchange element comprises fluid passages formed between arcuate plates spaced apart by tubular elements disposed between adjacent plates. The heat exchange element shown comprises a number of arcuate plates welded together to form coaxial tubes 4, 4a, 4b of increasing diameter positioned concentrically round a tubular frame 2. Sets of tubular spacers, e.g. 6, 6a, 6b disposed along element radii interconnect adjacent tubes 4, 4α. &c. The spacers widen out (at 10, Fig. 2) beyond the ends of said tubes and are joined together, e.g. by welding or clamping (at 11, Fig. 2), the inner spacers, e.g. 6, in addition being joined to the central frame 2. An outer frame 12 encloses the above described assembly. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the heat exchange element is divided into two parts by a grooved metal plate (18) to which are connected coaxial half cylinders (14). Spacers (16, 17) are disposed between the plates (14) along two radii perpendicular to the frame (18). The heat exchange element may be used in a nuclear reactor wherein the tubes 4, 4a &c. comprise arcuate plates of fuel elements. |
