PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material for an nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery and its manufacturing method, in which a lithium- nickel double oxide which can improve cycle characteristics of the secondary battery to maintain an electrical discharge capacity, can be manufactured at a low cost, and is widely utilized is used. SOLUTION: This positive electrode active material uses a cobalt-nickel coprecipitated hydroxide as raw material, which cobalt-nickel coprecipitated hydroxide is synthesized by supplying continuously and simultaneously a solution containing nickel and cobalt, a caustic alkaline aqueous solution, and an ammonium ion supply body, contains 9-25 moles % of cobalt, has a half value width of the [001] surface determined from the X-ray diffraction figure of 0.5 deg.-1.0 deg., and has tap density of 2.0-2.4 g/ml. The positive electrode active material is obtained by mixing the cobalt-nickel coprecipitated hydroxide and a lithium compound in a molar ratio of Li/M(=Co+Ni) of 1.0-1.1 in a way that the secondary skeleton particles are remained, and then burning the mixture at 620-730 deg.C in an oxygen atmosphere for 8-20 hours. |
