An ink jet recording paper is produced by coating a coating solution 5-20 g/m2 on the wood free paper pref. natural pulp, and drying the coated paper. The coating solution is composed of a mixture of a pigment (A) i.e. silica, zeolite, calcium silicate, magnesium silicate, calcium carbonate, clay, talc or titanium oxide and an adhesive (B) i.e. PVA, starch, aryl resin or latex [Mixing ratio of A to B is 10:3-4 , and pref. a antioxidant i.e. 2- methyl-4-hydroxy-5-tert butylphenyl butane. The recording paper has an excellent ink-absorbency and image- preservability.
