PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet sorting machine that can achieve downsizing and lower cost, and also perform a fast processing smoothly. SOLUTION: Mail is conveyed upward one by one from a supplying part 20 with a lifting conveyor 21, and changed its horizontal position to vertical position at a turning conveyor 22. When the mail goes through a detouring conveyor 23, address information is read off by a bar code reader 24, and based on the information, the mail is sorted out to a set shelf of a collecting device 27 by a sorting part 26 when it goes through a pivot conveyor 25. Then, the mail is conveyed to a set classification mouth 29 by a conveyor belt 30, and collected to the classification mouth 29 with a pusher at the state of standing. It is possible to set layout optionally and also to change the location of the detouring conveyor 23 differently because the collecting device 27 is made as a unit.
