A diffusion plate, a backlight unit, an electric optical device, an electronic device, and a manufacturing method of a backlight unit are provided to prevent an excessive temperature increase of a display unit by coating a surface of a diffusion plate portion with a material having a smaller heat release ratio than that of the diffusion plate portion. A first surface(3) of a diffusion plate portion facing a display unit is coated with a material(8a,8b) having a smaller heat release ratio than that of a material of the diffusion plate portion. At least a central portion of the central portion and an edge portion of the first substrate is coated with the material with a smaller heat release ratio.
