An apparatus recovers heat from flue gas and use it to preheat the air for combustion. The apparatus comprises flue gas pipes, a middle chamber (5), an air duct (6), a temperature sensor (10) and an automatically operated valve (12). Upper flue gas pipes (4a) and lower flue gas pipes (46) are connected by the middle chamber and they have members (8) which consist of zigzag elements and loops. The pipes pass through the air duct perpendicularly and the air for combustion is induced to the lower parts of the upper flue gas pipes. The temperature sensor is installed on a flue gas duct (1) and controls the automatically operated valve. A bypass pipe (13) with the valve is installed between an inlet passage (6a) and an outlet passage(6b).
