PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vibration damping device of new structure capable of obtaining more effective vibration damping effects in a plurality of or a wide frequency band. SOLUTION: A plurality of recessed parts 22 and projecting parts 34 having shapes corresponding to each other are formed on an independent mass member side abutting face 36 of an independent mass member 14 and an abutting member side abutting face 20 of an abutting member 12, respectively. On the respective recessed parts 22 formed on one of the independent mass member side abutting face 36 and the abutting member side abutting face 20, the respective projecting parts 34 formed on the other abut while entering into the recessed parts 22. By this configuration, the abutting area of the independent mass member side abutting face 36 and the abutting member side abutting face 20 is set larger than that in the state where no recessed parts 22 and projecting parts 34 are formed.
