PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a restriction member having excellent insertability to a cooling water flow channel, and capable of effectively exerting restriction of circulation of cooling water, and suppressing influence of a pressure and the like of the cooling water on a variable body expandable in a width direction of the cooling water flow channel.SOLUTION: A restriction member 4 inserted to a cooling water flow channel 3 disposed on a cylinder block 1 of an internal combustion engine from its opening portion to restrict circulation of cooling water in the cooling water flow channel 3, includes a base 5 formed into the shape mountable on a prescribed position in the cooling water flow channel 3, a variable body 6 mounted on the base 5 and expandable toward a width direction b of the cooling water flow channel, a movable body 7 mounted on the variable body 6, and movable in the width direction b of the cooling water flow channel 3 with the variable body 6 in accompany with the expansion of the variable body 6, and a projecting portion 50 disposed in a state of projecting to the width direction b of the cooling water flow channel 3, on the base 5 at an upstream-side position in a flowing direction a, of the cooling water with respect to the variable body 6.
