Hydrophone comprising a metal pin 1, having for an end a relatively small flat surface. According to the invention, there is applied to the flat surface a layer of quartz 2, and on this quartz layer there is applied a layer of zinc oxide 3. On the outside of the layer of zinc oxide 3 there is applied a thin metal layer 5, whereby one or more leads are taken out to the metal layer 5. These leads are electrically insulated from the metal pin 1. The metal pin 1 is secured to a hollow tube, in which there is arranged a preamplifier, whose output is connected to the metal pin 1 and to the conducting layer on the outside of the insulation. The diameter of the zinc oxide layer 3 is 10-100 microns, and thus a nearly pointlike measurement is possible. Furthermore, the hydrophone is very robust and withstands a sonic pressure of around 2000 bar. <IMAGE>
