MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics and travelling durability. SOLUTION: This recording medium consists of a nonmagnetic supporting body and at least one magnetic layer having dispersion of a ferromagnetic powder and a binder on the supporting body. The binder contains a polyurethane having 3.0 mmol/g to 4.0 mmol/g urethane group density which is prepared by using a polyester polyol comprising an aliphatic dibasic acid and a diol component having no cyclic structure. In this aliphatic diol component, >=70 mol.% of the aliphatic diol has alkyl branched chains having >=2 carbon atoms. The ferromagnetic powder essentially consists of iron containing 0.5 to 20 wt.% yttrium.
