PURPOSE:To make it possible to easily perform the manual entry in recording paper, by retracting the pen part of an X-Y plotter to a position not interfering the hand of a worker when the worker makes an entry by his hand. CONSTITUTION:A pencil erecting box 42 is fixed to the side surface of an X-Y plotter 22 and, in order to perform the manual entry in recording paper 18, a hole 44 for inserting a pencil 43 and a pencil sensor 47 detecting the pencil 43 in said hole 44 are provided to the pencil erecting box 42. The automatic entry by a pen 38 is permitted during a time when the pencil detection signal from the pencil sensor 47 is supplied but, when no pencil detection signal is detected, that is, when a worker makes a manual entry using the pencil 43, CPU moves and retracts the pen 38 to a position avoiding the interference with the hand of the worker.
