The material according to the invention is distinguished by an open-cell pore structure produced by taking a cast from a corresponding polyurethane foam structure. To produce it, a foam substrate is covered with a suspension of silicon powder, synthetic resin and solvent, and subjected to a temperature treatment, in the course of which the substrate is expelled and the silicon is consolidated. The thermally and chemically stable product can be used, for example, as a filter medium for molten metals, as a catalyst support or in burners as a separating medium between the flame zone and the unignited flammable mixture. |
