PURPOSE:To obtain the title product improved in wear resistance at room temperature - 230 deg.C, with favorable compressive modulus, suitable for bearings, piston rods, etc., by incorporating poly-m-phenylene isophthalamide (PMIA) with a specified amount of polytetrafluoroethylene. CONSTITUTION:(A) 95.5-98.5wt.% of poly-m-phenylene isophthalamide (PMIA) 0.5-4.0 in intrinsic viscosity determined in the form of a solution at 30 deg.C prepared by dissolving 0.5g of this polymer in 100ml of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone is incorporated with (B) 1.5-4.5wt.% of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and the resultant blend is fed to a compression molding unit where initial deaeration is thoroughly made, followed by retaining compression for 1-5min per mm of the wall thickness of the aimed molded product under a pressure of 100-1000kg/cm<2> at temperatures higher than the glass transition temperature of PMIA. It is preferable that the both components A and B be mutually blended in a granular form, and the PTFE to be used is of primary granules <=35mu (esp. <=30mu) in mean size. |
