BUTT WELDING METHOD FOR TOUCH PITCH COPPER PLATES

PURPOSE:To easily and surely perform welding with desired strength by using a welding electrode of oxygen free copper for a butt weld zone of tough pitch copper plates and performing one-side penetration welding by inert gas arc welding by using backing. CONSTITUTION:A butt part of the tough pitch copper plates or copper plates 1A and 1B containing silver is located on the upper surface of backing 4 on a base plate 5. At this time, the butt part thereof is corresponding to a long groove 6 and the tough pitch copper plates 1A and 1B are held by pressing devices 12 via spacers 13 and the gap and positions of respective abutting surfaces 2A and 2B are set. The vicinity of the butt part thereof is then preheated by an arc 11 and the tough pitch copper plates 1A and 1B are subjected to one-side penetration welding by using the welding electrode 14 of oxygen free copper by inert gas arc welding. Accordingly, positioning of the abutting surface of the tough pitch copper plates 1A and 1B is carried out with high accuracy and welding with the desired strength can be welded.
