The invention presents a mobile telephone having means for monitoring safety features which comprises devices for measuring at least one function-related variable, data processing means for comparing the value of the at least one function-related variable with at least one limit value, means for producing a warning signal and indicator means for visual, audible or haptic output of the warning signal when the value of a function-related variable exceeds or drops below the limit value. In this case, the mobile telephone has means for setting the at least one limit value. The function-related variable may be the state of the storage battery, for example. In addition, a monitoring system is proposed which comprises a mobile telephone of the aforementioned type and also a means for data transmission for the purpose of data interchange with a control centre which has the mobile telephone.
