Provided are: a therapeutic agent for septicemia and/or septic shock; and a method for screening for same.　The present invention pertains to a therapeutic agent for septicemia and/or septic shock, containing, as an active ingredient, an Arid5A inhibitor. The present invention is also a method for screening for candidate substances effective in the treatment of septicemia and/or septic shock, said method comprising: (a) a step of evaluating the impact of a test substance on the expression and/or function of Arid5A; and (b) a step which involves the selection of a substance that reduces the expression and/or function of Arid compared to a case in which the test substance is not used.
