Thermal insulation strips for door and window frames - prevent heat loss through caulking strips

A building with cavity walls consisting of an outer wall (11) and inner wall (12) has a window or door frame (13) which is sealed with caulking strips (14) (15). Since these caulking strips are often made of material which is a better conductor of heat than the brickwork the strips form a cold bridge which allows heat to escape from the interior of the building. This heat loss is reduced by fitting pre-fabricated strips of plaster board with an L shaped cross-section (19,20) over the inner edges of the caulking strips (15). The cavity formed bythe L shape is filled with a rigid plastics foam (21). The total thickness of this thermal insulation strip is about 42 mm, the plasterboard being 12 mm thick and the plastic foam 30 mm thick.
