PURPOSE:To increase the time of machining, by detecting the resistance to the truing-up of a grinding wheel of very hard abrasive grains by a truer, comparing the detected resistance with a preset reference value, and stopping the repetition of a unit repair cycle when the detected resistance has exceeded the reference value. CONSTITUTION:In tooling, a grinding wheel 21 of very hard abrasive grains and a disk-shaped truer 33 are rotated, and a unit repair cycle consisting of a first step in which the truer is moved in a downward direction Y and a second step in which the truer is moved in a transverse direction X is performed a plurality of times. In the second step, the resistance to the truing-up of the grinding wheel 21 by the truer 33 is detected and compared with a preset reference value. The resistance to the truing-up increases and approaches a constant level every time the unit repair cycle is performed. The unit repair cycle is repeatedly performed until the resistance exceeds the reference value. Since the resistance to the truing-up becomes constant at the time of the completion of the tooling, regardless of the past condition of the grinding wheel 21, the grinding power of the grinding wheel becomes nearly constant. The time cost to repeatedly perform the unit repair cycle in every time of truing-up is thus shortened.
