PURPOSE:To improve the officiency of machining an axial object for producing respective small amounts of various sorts of article in a process prior to cutting by performing centering, facing and machining of an axial end part with the same head stock and the same cutter. CONSTITUTION:A raw material W is positioned to vice stands 9, 9' in the axial direction. Then head stocks 6, 6' are advanced in order to cut both end outer diameters of the raw material W to the specified size by tools 52, 52' revolved together with center drills 28, 28' located in leading positions. Next, center holes are drilled by the center drills 28, 28'. After finishing this machining, the head stocks 6, 6' are retreated in order to followingly cut the end face of the raw material W by the tools 52, 52' for completion of one cycle of machining. This operation is made by NC control.
