PURPOSE: To prevent a stapler from being closed or lost-driven when an empty cartridge is loaded or when a cartridge is not loaded. CONSTITUTION: A stapler 10 has a detecting function of detecting non-loading of a cartridge or loading of an empty cartridge. This detecting mechanism is provided in an anvil frame 12 and has a pin 82 energized in the projecting direction in the cartridge 32. On the other hand, the cartridge 32 has a pusher 42 for pushing out a staple in its housing 40. When a cartridge 32 where a staple is already driven is loaded, the pin 82 is projected into the cartridge 32 to inhibit movement of a ram 48, thereby inhibiting emission of a stapler. Thus, in loading of an empty cartridge or non-loading of a cartridge, the stapler prevents tissue from being clamped. |
