The invention relates to a method and device for carrying out an NOx regeneration of an NOx storage-type catalytic converter mounted in an exhaust gas channel of an internal combustion engine, whereby the internal combustion engine can be operated in different operational modes, and exhaust gas is returned into the induction air of the internal combustion engine during at least one of the operational modes. According to the invention, the NOx regeneration is carried out during at least a portion of the regeneration time with a reduced exhaust gas return rate and/or without exhaust gas return. A rapid switching over into the regeneration mode is thus attained without misfiring and a short regeneration time achieved. |
