A pipe branch piece, with pipe ends 2, 3 branching from a pipe 1, has a reinforcing structure 10, welded between the branching pipes 2, 3 in the form of a sickle-shaped triangular box girder, so arranged that the imaginary line of intersection 14 of the adjacent walls of the branch pipe is within the boundaries of its cross-section. For the maximum stresses in the reinforcing girder to be approximately equal to the stresses in the pipe, the apex T of the traingular cross-section of the girder in the plane containing the axes of the pipe must be situated at a point where the ratio of the hoop stress in the pipe to the component of the hoop stress perpendicular to the plane containing the axes of the pipe is in the range 0.5-0.8. From this point T, in the sectional plane containing the pipe axes, the side walls 12, 13 of the member 10 extend in approximately parallel relationship to the bisector w of the angle between the plane of intersection D of the pipes 2, 3 and of the respective pipe wall. The girder may be made of cast steel and its cavity may be filled with, for example, concrete. |
