PURPOSE: A display device and an apparatus for driving the same are provided to match the difference between the visual recognition characteristics and the display device. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for driving the display device includes a first driving unit, a second driving unit(500) and a panel controller(300). The first driving unit supplies the scan signal to the first electrode. The second driving unit supplies the data pulse signal to the second electrode. And, the panel controller generates and supplies the scan signal, and changes the period of the data pulses based on the luminance value for each gray level to output the changed period to the second driving unit.
