摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article having a thermal barrier coating with an improved impact and erosion resistance, and a method for forming such the coating on the article. <P>SOLUTION: The thermal barrier coating (22) for an underlying metal substrate contains a zirconia-containing ceramic composition which has a c/a ratio of a zirconia lattice of 1.0117-1.0148 and is stabilized in a tetragonal phase by a metal oxide stabilizer other than yttria alone with a stabilizing amount. The thermal barrier coating (22) has (1) a porosity ratio of 0. 10-0.25 and (2) an impact and erosion resistance property defined by at least one of formula (a): I=exp[5.85-(144×s)-(3.68×p)] and formula (b): E=[187-(261×p)-(9989×s)], wherein s=1.0117-c/a; p is the porosity; I is≥140 g/mil; and E is≥130 g/mil. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p>
