PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a data volume to be transmitted to an on-vehicle device from a data provision apparatus.SOLUTION: In a navigation system 10, an on-vehicle device 2 performs: transmitting to a portable device 3 a key word for searching for a destination of navigation and receiving prefectures to which candidate sites of the destination belong, from the portable device 3, the destination being a result of the search using the key word; selecting, as a selection region, one prefecture from among the prefectures to which the candidate sites belong and transmitting the selected selection region to the portable device 3; and receiving candidate sites belonging to the selection region from the portable device 3 and selecting one candidate site from among the candidate sites belonging to the selection region as the destination. Not all of candidate sites of the destination are transmitted as a result of the search based on the key word, and therefore it is possible to reduce a data volume to be transmitted to the on-vehicle device 2 from the portable device 3 even in a case where the number of hit candidate sites is relatively large. |
