A detachable bit cutting tool has the bit formed with cutting edges between its two base surfaces and its lateral surfaces so that it can be turned to a selected cutting position between parts located over and under it, the lateral surfaces 23, Fig. 2, being provided with recesses 15, Fig. 8, which are shaped and arranged so that each of them can co-operate with an element 17 projecting from a lateral clamping member 16 which secures the bit by pressing one of its lateral surfaces against a supporting edge 19 of the holder. The recesses are not shown on the bit 1 in Fig. 2 but the crossed concave base surfaces 24 for locating it are illustrated. A chip-breaker 5, Fig. 5, co-operating with a top clamping piece 4, is provided with a curved surface to engage the corresponding bit surface. The clamping piece 4 is adjustable by an eccentric member 14. The lateral clamping plate 16, Fig. 8, carrying the projection 17 is tightened by a screw 18 and a plate 20, held by countersunk screws (not shown), engages the bit on a lateral edge. |
