A matrix liquid crystal display uses line and column electrodes of a transparent film coupled by metallic film conductors to ensure a constant and uniform voltage at each point in the display matrix. The complete display unit consists of two polarising layers (1, 2) aligned in the same direction and two transparent layers (3, 4) e.g. glass. The substrate layers are separated by a gap of 10-20 microns and contains a liquid crystal. The rows of the matrix are formed by printing lines of metallic film conductors on the substrate, and each conductor has a number of rectangular section transparent electrodes, e.g. In2O3. A similar arrangement is provided for the columns with electrodes coinciding with those of the rows.
|
