PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized, high-performance optical filter by cascading single-polarization filters successively while the principal axis of the n-th fiber is arranged at a specific angle, and fiber type polarizers to both ends of the N units of single-polarization fibers respectively. CONSTITUTION:This optical fiber consists of the fiber type polarizers 1 and 2, single-polarization fibers 3-7, cores 8-14, metals 15 and 16, and stress parts 17-21 formed by adding B2O3-GeO2 to SiO2. the direction with the least optical loss in the fiber type polarizers is regarded as an X axis and the principal axis of the n-th single-polarization fiber is set to an angle thetan satisfying an equation during successive connections; and the fiber type polarizers are connectd to both ends of the N units of the single-polarization fibers respectively. Thus, the optical filter has high performance and is reduced in size. |
