PURPOSE:To obtain a glass body having a uniform refractive index gradient by adding a hygroscopic agent to an org. solvent to be used in a stage for depositing a dopant in the pores in a porous glass body from a dopant soln. penetrated into the pores. CONSTITUTION:A soln. of a dopant such as CsNO3 or TlNO3 is penetrated into the pores in a porous glass body. The dopant is deposited in the pores, or part of the dopant in the pores is leached without causing deposition to provide a concn. gradient to the dopant in the porous glass body. The glass body is immersed in an org. solvent contg. a hygroscopic agent such as quick lime at a low temp. to substitute the org. solvent for the solvent in the pores, thereby depositing the dopant in the pores and stabilizing it. The porous glass body is then dried to volatilize the solvent in the pores, and it is made solid by heat treatment. Thus, the desired glass body having a refractive index gradient is obtd. |
