The process involves a body being buried in a coffin. A container is placed within the coffin to receive the body. The container consists of a base (4) and a cover (8) of non-degradable material. A volume, sufficient to contain all the moisture contained within the body, is defined between the base and the cover. Water vapour given off by the body condenses on the inner surface of the cover and runs down its internal walls. The cover is not sealed to the base of the container, allowing the water to escape through the join between cover and base. At least one of the internal surfaces of the cover is inclined relative to the ground surface.
