摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform transmission through an optical fiber of a narrow pass band by block-encoding a binary code of a specified but width, converting it into the binary code of a specified bit width larger than that, furthermore converting it to at least a ternary code and transmitting it. SOLUTION: A 4B5B code conversion part 102 converts a binary code of a 4-bit width outputted by a transmission control part 101 into a binary code of a 5-bit width by referring to a conversion table provided inside and performing block-encoding. The binary code is parallel/serial converted and then converted to a ternary code of the 5-bit width by a ternary code converter 110 composed of a pre-coder 104 and a transversal equalizer 105, and optical signals generated by an electro-optical conversion part 106 are emitted to a plastic optical fiber 3. A receiver 2 of a device constitution opposite to a transmitter 1 receives optical signals and decodes the binary code of the 4-bit width. The transmission light based on the multi-valued code has a moderate time fluctuations of power, spectrum of the optical signals of which is narrow and suitable for the plastic optical fiber.
