PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element having high luminous efficacy and a long lifetime, and to provide a bis carbazole derivative for achieving the same.SOLUTION: A bis carbazole derivative has a specific substituent. An organic electroluminescent element has a plurality of organic thin film layers containing a luminescent layer between a cathode and an anode, and at least one layer among the organic thin film layers contains the bis carbazole derivative.SELECTED DRAWING: None
