PURPOSE:To detect a defective sensor element by opposing an optical fiber cable group to each photodetector of a charge transfer type image sensor element to be tested, inputting a light to an optical fiber cable group and checking an output voltage of each sensor element. CONSTITUTION:In the function test of a CCD element, a CCD drive section 7 generates a CCD drive signal and a timing signal of a main control section 2 and inputs them to a CCD, a CCD output voltage detection section 4, an output voltage decision section 5 and the control section 2. An LED drive section 1 lights an LED designated by the control section 2. The light of the lighted LED is irradiated to the CCD through one optical fiber cable in lots of optical fiber cables 6. The irradiated light is subject to photoelectric conversion by teh CCD, inputted to a detection section 4 and amplified and then inputted to the section 5. The deciding signal representing the propriety of the section 5 and the number of the lighted LED are displayed on a display section 3. Thus, the CCD is subject to function check one by one bit.
