PURPOSE:To improve temperature distribution within a cell and to uniformly raise the temperature of a stack by closing or opening gas passages on both sides of each cooling plate with a pair of shielding plates which are pivoted with a rigid frame mounted to cooling gas inlet manifolds. CONSTITUTION:Cooling gas manifolds 9, 9' are mounted to the facing sides on which a gas passage 2 of a cooling plate 2 in a cell stack 1 is opened through frames 6. An operating axis 14 to which each shielding plate 13 is fixed is pivoted on both sides of the frame 6 corresponding to the inlet side manifold 9, and gas passages on both sides of the cooling plate are closed or opened with a pair of shielding plates 13. If the shielding plate is opened when cell operation starts, the temperature of the cell stack 1 is uniformly raised with a heated gas flowing through the gas passage in the cooling plate, and if the shielding plate is closed, cooling capability on both sides of the cooling plate is retarded to make the temperature distribution within the cell uniform. |
