An image special effect of making near objects sharp and far objects unsharp on a screen is readily produced. On a screen (200), an image (156a'') concerning far objects of relative large depth including the background is formed by performing a semitransparency processing of shifting the original image by two pixels upward, an image (154a') concerning middle distant objects is formed by performing a semitransparency processing of shifting the original image by one pixel upward, and an image (152a) concerning near objects is formed without performing any such upward shifting processing. In such an image (222) thus formed, the near image (152a) is sharp, the middle distant image (154a') is a little unsharp, and the far image (156a'') is more unsharp.
