The present invention provides a safe and outstanding method for detecting or measuring an anti-GAD antibody and a kit therefor, which shows a high sensitivity and specificity that are comparable to those of radioimmunoassays. More specifically, the present invention provides a method for detecting or measuring an anti-GAD antibody comprising contacting a sample with a carrier on which a recombinant GAD antigen is immobilized, binding said antigen and said antibody in the sample to form a complex, and detecting said complex by a chemiluminescent dioxetane having a group that can be cleaved with an enzyme and an antibody labeled with an enzyme that can cause chemiluminescence by cleaving said group, and a kit for the method.
