An apparatus and a method for processing data in a hard disk recorder are provided to offer a better data broadcasting service to a user by receiving, demodulating and displaying a normal broadcasting stream and various data by wired/wireless when receiving the broadcasting signal. A method for processing data in a hard disk recorder comprises the following steps of: determining whether a broadcasting signal which is synchronized through a tuner is an OTA(Over The Air) method if the tuner of the hard disk recorder is activated(S200,S202); determining whether the synchronizing broadcasting signal is a WiBro(Wireless Broadband) method if the broadcasting signal is not the OTA method and determining that the broadcasting signal is a cable method if the synchronizing broadcasting signal is not the WiBro method(S204,S206); demodulating and displaying the broadcasting signal if the broadcasting signal determined as the cable method is a stream method(S208); determining that the broadcasting signal is the OTA method or the WiBro method if the broadcasting signal is not the stream method, applying an SAW(Surface Acoustic Wave) filter corresponding to data, and filtering the broadcasting signal(S212); and demodulating and displaying the broadcasting signal filtered by the application of the SAW filter(S214).
