The present invention addresses the problem of providing a light emitting device capable of improving reliability and reducing cost, and a method for manufacturing the light emitting device. Disclosed is a light emitting device (1a) wherein an ultraviolet transmitting section (666) of a cap 6a is formed of a glass that transmits ultraviolet. In the light emitting device (1a), a first electrode (31) of an ultraviolet light emitting element (3), and a first conductor section (21) of a mounting substrate (2a) are bonded to each other by means of a first bonding section (61) formed of AuSn, a second electrode (32) of the ultraviolet light emitting element (3), and a second conductor section (22) of the mounting substrate (2a) are bonded to each other by means of a second bonding section (62) formed of AuSn, and a first bonding metal layer (23) of the mounting substrate (2a), and a second bonding metal layer (43) of the cap (6a) are bonded to each other by means of a third bonding section (63) formed of AuSn. |
